I made two trips to Bents this past week (long story). On Friday June 29th we had a good day and all was well. Went back on Monday July 1st to find the entry road posted "no trespassing". Needless to say, that was quite a shock. Just wanted to give a heads up so nobody else is caught off guard by this.

It was only a matter of time and I knew this would happen...Our images of Bents have attracted alot of attention to this town and it really has gone down hill in the past few years. my last visit at GTC2 over 4 years ago was my last and I said I would not come back to see the destruction done by others......

The "story" was that I had been talking for a while about going out there with my friend Lindsay who grew up in that area and knows everybody for miles around. We finally decided Friday June 29th would work for us and for another friend of his whose grandparents actually owned and ran the general store, and who apparently has many stories about the town when it was still active and lived in. In the end we didn't get to meet with her as she had a funeral to attend that day.

Lindsay and my grandson (also a keen photographer of old stuff) and I had a wonderful day meandering around the area and in Bents itself. I made it to the front rooms of the upstairs of the store which I had never done before due to worries about the floors (quite a valid concern) and got shots of the wonderful painted walls in the bedrooms, among many other of the usual shots. So that was Friday's visit.

Another friend who wanted to come on Friday but couldn't saw my wall shots and became obsessed with getting to photograph the walls. I said we should do it on the first possible bright day as they are north facing and the sun wouldn't be getting any farther north than it already is for this year. Monday was our day, and I was beyond shocked when we saw the sign posted. I agree that there has been a lot of damage done over the past four years since I learned about Bents and started going there, and perhaps this will at least slow the deterioration down. Still, a sad day for photographers, and as usual we are being punished for the transgressions of others.

Oh wow! Well I am glad you at least got to go the first time.

I was going to call up one of the owners of the store (probably the same family you are talking about) to learn a bit more of the town. Stories about Bents would be super good. I guess they just got tied of all the damage folks have done and I do not blame them. It is rather sad, Bents is a cool place.

Like Mike said; "not going back there….and saw it coming"
Argh though.

That's the sign that was planted in the middle of the entry road to Bents when I was out there in early July. I wondered how the store owner could do that since he doesn't own the whole site, and now it seems he has relocated it to his own property. I don't think there is any video there--it's an old looking sign that I suspect he has recycled.

Well, Chris, this is just my interpretation of the information that Staggerlee posted in September, haven't been out there myself since the July visit. Let us know what you find when you do get there. I'm interested in getting some "snow on the ground" shots so would also consider a trip before it gets too darn cold.
